ANGRMS Collection: Restored Handcar

ANGRMS Collection: Restored Handcar

Background
This handcar (Quadricycle) was donated by the Brisbane City Council to The Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society in the early 1970’s.
Since that time it has resided at Woodford among the collection of steam engines.
In September 1997, the BCC Heritage Committee donated funds to assist with the handcars' restoration, which was gratefully received.
The 4 wheeled handcar, presumably used for track maintenance on the Pinkenba – Luggage Point Sewerage Treatment Tramway took 3 months to rebuild to near original condition.
At completion, the restoration team returned the handcar to the last remaining section of original tramway for the first time in approximately 28 years.
The handcar now rejoins a key part of the Society’ permanent collection of narrow gauge rail memorabilia. It is also regularly used to promote the Society at shopping malls, Libraries and stores alike.
